Competition handbook

This comprehensive guide aims to support new and existing members into the world of digital and print photographic competitions. 

Hand in dates

Make sure you don't miss your chance to compete. The syllabus shows what competitions are available to compete in and when you can submit your images. 

Competitions

Each year Greenock Camera Club (GCC) holds a number of photography competitions for members to compete in. While entering these competitions is entirely voluntary, members are encouraged to enter as it is a great way to quickly improve your photography skills and knowledge. 

INTERNAL

As a club member you will have the opportunity to compete for our coveted trophies. 

INTER-CLUB

We compete with clubs both local to the Greenock area and in some cases further a field. 

EXTERNAL

Anyone can enter these competition but bear in mind that the standard is extremely high.

Groups

Only Greenock Camera Club Members (members and those who have introduced themselves as future members) are permitted to join either group. 

The Sunday Club 

The 'Sunday Club' is a sub-section of Greenock Camera Club and is a managed group on Facebook.  The Sunday Club's primary focus is to encourage members to meet up on a Sunday afternoon and go out together as a group to practice and share photography knowledge.   The club is also used as informal communications area to discusses all aspects of photography and discuss camera club business.

  • Resizing Images for Digital Projection
    This guide is in PDF format and shows you how to resize your images for entry into club competitions for digital projection, the guide can be downloaded by clicking here.

  • Digital Photography Basics
    This presentation is in PDF format, and has been used previously at the club to explain the basics of digital photography to members, you can download it by clicking here.

USEFUL SOFTWARE

  • Gimp –  A free alternative to programs such as Adobe Photoshop or Elements, and contains many of the features of paid-for software, however, the layout of features is slightly different. The latest version of The Gimp can be downloaded by visiting their web page here

  • Fast Stone Image Viewer – This is the image viewer that we use at the camera club when projecting our members’ digital photos, in addition to being an excellent image viewer, it can also be used for basic editing, resizing and renaming of photos, best of all it’s free!
