This week at Desert Island Photos we are joined by club member Geoff Orr.


How long have you been a member of the club?

Since October 2016

When did you first get into photography?

At school, there was a camera club with a dark room with all the kit to develop and print B & W photographs


How would you describe your Photography?

What was your first camera?

Brownie Box Camera.


What’s been your biggest waste of money on camera gear?

A tripod that was not portable enough to get in my suitcase.


Be Honest - What kind of photography are you bad at?

Quite a lot, mainly portraits when the subject get bored as I fiddle about.


To Crop or Not to Crop?

I feel good when I don’t have to but to be truthful I hardly ever avoid it.


What’s the thing you enjoy most about photography?

It encourages me to look more closely at the world around me.




What are you shooting with just now?

Olympus OMD EM1 Micro 4/3rds. Ie. not Canon or Nikon and not full frame like the rest of you.


What advice would you give someone thinking of taking up photography?

Use the camera on your phone, start editing some images and don’t be afraid to join a camera club and enter their competitions. That way you get some helpful tips to build on and advice about what kit to buy


What’s is your desert island camera and lens set up?

Leica M6 B & W setup with someone to hand me new film cassettes and develop them.

Around the wall of our downstairs loo and on competition nights at the Greenock Camera Club.
